FINDING GOD in the ordinary
(a study in 1 Samuel)
War. Politics. Religion. Family strife.
The big ideas that define modern life. Truth is they have been the defining realities of much of history, including the history of the people of God. In fact almost a third of our Old Testament is classified as history, following the God’s people into the land of promise. The books of Samuel play an important role in this history showing the transformation of Israel from a company of tribes to a centralized state.
However the big ideas are only part of the story. Behind the victories and the defeats, in the king’s house and the poor house, there is the presence of an almighty God. A God who is not only acquainted with people but involved in their destinies. Not always on the surface and not always in ways we’d expect, but central to the movement and transformation of his people.
Today, as in times past, history’s greatest reality is God Himself. As we look for him in the lives of a those in First Samuel, I encourage you to look for him in your life.
