Who We Are
The Sisters In Service women's group at Browncroft Community Church seeks to express the love of Christ to women and children living in desperate, little-reached areas of the world. We are part of a vibrant and growing national organization. Since our chapter's beginning in 2004, our focus has been the country of Sudan. We have funded micro-business loans for women there (2004) and helped to establish a school in southern Sudan (2005-06). Our current project is described below. Come to one of our meetings and learn more about us. We meet on the 4th Monday of each month in room A-10 at BCC. You can also learn more about our parent organization, including other areas of the world it serves, at http://www.sistersinservice.org/.
Our 2007 Project
In Sudan wherever government schools operate, children are required to go through Koranic Kindergarten before being accepted into primary schools. As an alternative, and to protect Christianity from disappearing in years to come, local Christians have opened kindergartens and primary schools where Christian education is taught and children are prepared to face the challenges of life in Sudan with God's help. Children attending the schools are often refugees from Sudan's troubled Darfur region.
Sisters In Service is now working to provide help to two schools in Khartoum, Sudan's northern capital. These primary schools provide basic education and an opportunity for the children to learn the necessary skills and knowledge needed to prepare them for the future. By providing quality education, the African Church, with our help, is able to offer hope for the future of Sudan. Click here to learn more.
$120 supports one child for one year of education, and ensures that the child will also receive one nutritious meal each day. Those interested in helping with these scholarships may do so in several ways:
- Send a check directly to SIS
- Designate funds for SIS on your BCC offering envelope
- Pick up a SIS quarter wrapper in the lobby, then return your filled wrapper to the information desk
