Rachel and I have two small kids. The more time I spend around them the more I realize what great responsibility is involved in being a parent. In many ways their future is shaped by what I teach them today.

Wouldn’t it be great if God took the time to speak to us? Sure God speaks to each of us in and through the Bible. What if God had individual messages designed and sent just to us? I think life would be a lot less complicated.

I was talking to a friend the other day when they asked me an interesting question. “Blake, who is God for you, really?” I had to think for a moment. Who was God for me? I hadn’t thought about it much. I guess not many of us do.

Disappointment. Not really a word that feels right as the first word of a new year. Yet, disappointment is the stuff that makes up much of life. Sometimes life doesn’t turn out the way we would like it to or even expect it to. We are disappointed.
