Grumpy from trying to get my family moving, I sat down to read this scripture. Wow! It hits hard, pretty convicting. I read – from a king, by the way – “Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?”(v18). Sometimes I forget how far God has brought me and my family, especially days like today when things don’t go how I want them to. No, he hasn’t promised us an eternal kingdom like He did to David, but He has brought us far, and has blessed us immensely. God has opened my eyes, given me more patience, and taught me how to have deeper relationships. Why me? Why us? This Word just pierces through everything, all the hardness building up on my heart, and makes me repentant, thankful, and humbled. This is what I love about God’s Word. It knows what’s in my heart, or in this case what’s not in my heart, and He calls me on it.
As I read the remainder of the passage, the message is just the balm my soul needs. “How great you are…There is no one like you…there is no God but you” (v22), “your name will be great forever” (v26), and “Your words are trustworthy”(v28). These words describing God have power. They just grab my attention making an easy transition in focus off of me and on to Him! How does God know this is just the passage I need to read today, right now, to see Him clearly and to worship Him? Our Route 365 scripture writing assignments seem to have been randomly selected, but they’re not. God assigns them. God assigns what leads me to Him. And God assigns what sets my heart right. I guess it’s time to go tell my husband how thankful I am for his support this afternoon. And I’m glad it’s Monday because if I’m going to hear God speak to me this week, this is exactly where I need to start. “O Sovereign Lord, you are God!”(v28).
Your Fellow Traveler,
Melinda
