1 Kings 1:1-27 Week 24 : Day 5

written by Cheryl Gunderman

Today’s our last run together; let’s see what God has to show us today.

Isn’t that just the way life is? You get the formula down for success; you learn the “trick” and think the rewards are just around the corner and what happens? Someone steps in and try’s to take it all away. Sound familiar?

Let’s see what happens to close out David’s life story. King David is old. David’s son Adonijah decides now is a good time to take over the throne and become King. So that’s what he does, he declares himself king without telling David about it Now, God had already promised through David that his throne would be passed on to his son Solomon , not Adonijah. So what happens next? Do Solomon & his mom, Bathsheeba, run away? Do they accept the change and take their chances? No way, they stand up for what they know is God’s promise and rely the relationships they have built through the years – Nathan the prophet, Zadok, the priest, Beniaiah, (one of David’s 30 mighty men) , and King David himself – to ensure God’s purpose is accomplished.

Do we show the same courage to stand up for God’s purpose in our lives? Have we cultivated strong relationships with others who share the same desire to fulfill God’s promises? Are we willing to call on these friendships for support and prayer when we’re challenged? Think of some people you can count on. Can’t think of anyone? Then today’s a great time to reach out & start building relationships with other followers of Christ.

Hope you’ve enjoyed out run together. Keep it up.

Your fellow traveler,
Cheryl G.
