1 Kings 5:1-18 Week 27 : Day 1

written by Rusty Knight

I was a soccer guy growing up and I still love to play when I get the chance. An aspect of team sports that I love is that it takes a team of guys, each with different skill sets and abilities, coming together to build a great team.

Just like teams need multiple players with different abilities and gifts to build a great team, King Solomon also needed different people and countries to help him build the Lord’s temple. He needed help with obtaining the best supplies and the expert craftsmanship to accomplish this great build. Solomon made mutual agreements with surrounding countries and kingdoms, such as Tyre and Lebanon to help bring in lumber and stones for the construction of the temple. Solomon’s task was to build the temple, though he couldn’t do it alone—he needed help to accomplish this task for Christ.

I’m encouraged, knowing that I’m part of God’s “team,” and am hopefully helping to build something great. I think it’s so cool to think that God has chosen us to help him build his kingdom here on earth. God works through us and has given us each individual gifts to use in spreading his love and good news. I’m challenged to make myself and the gifts God has given me available for his use. Will you make yourself, your talents and your resources available to Christ today?

Your fellow traveler,
Rusty
