1 Kings 8:1-21 Week 27 : Day 5

by Rusty Knight

I feel like today’s reading is the final scene of a movie I’ve been watching over the past five days. It started with Solomon rallying the troops from near and far to gather the supplies and build the temple. Then came furnishing and decorating the inside and outside of it with bronze pillars, basins, and decorative panels. Finally, we find ourselves at the dedication ceremony. I imagine this as the grand ribbon-cutting ceremony where all the big wigs from Israel and all the people are gathered to watch on this magnificent day. Not only is this significant because Israel now has a permanent place of worship and a resting place for the ark of the covenant, but its signifies the fulfillment of God’s promise to Solomon, and his father David.

I think it’s cool to know that the same God who was faithful to Solomon in fulfilling the promises he made to him is the same God who has made promises to us and will be faithful to his promises. I think of some of the promises God has made to us, such as those in John 3:16, Romans 8:28, Romans 10:9, Deuteronomy 31:6, and James 4:8. These are some of my favorite verses that come to my mind. I think Solomon’s life can reflect God’s faithfulness in fulfilling his promises. What promises can we be reminded of today, and with 100% confidence know that God will be faithful to fulfill every one of them?

Your fellow traveler,
Rusty

Re: God’s Promises to Us

I like this promise

Philippians 1:6 (English Standard Version)
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
