1 Kings 10:1-13 Week 28 : Day 5

by Sarah Knight

My mom always used to tell me “remember to be who you are.” I have to admit that I would say, “I know, Mom, I will,” and I wouldn’t always make good on that promise in high school. I actually wasn’t even really sure what she meant by that. Her little phrase was a simple reminder to me that my classmates knew I was a Christian and it was important to display that through my words and actions, because they’d be watching extra close. I think that’s why Christians get a bad reputation sometimes; they act the same as everyone else. We’re supposed to be lights, shining brightly, standing out for all the right reasons.

I guess that’s why the Queen of Sheba was so impressed with Solomon. He actually backed up his reputation with his actions. He didn’t even really have to say anything. She saw that he was prosperous and his people were happy and joyous. Everything lined up with what he was supposed to be. I hope that’s true with my life. Talk is cheap; it’s true, especially these days. We need to “remember to be who we are,” sons and daughters of Christ. It’s so important that our lives and our actions line up accordingly, because you never know who is watching.

Your fellow traveler,
Sarah
