1 Kings 7:13-51 Week 27 : Day 4

by Rusty Knight

From the reading today, I’m continued to be impressed by the magnificent detail and craftsmanship put into building and furnishing the temple. I can only imagine what the huge bronze basins looked like, and how impressive the furnishings were that Solomon filled the temple with. These sorts of decorations would look pretty strange in a church building today; however, we still decorate our places of worship with expertly crafted communion tables, hymnbooks, banners and other decorations that serve as worship aids.

It’s neat for me to think that though the decorations and looks of our places of worship have changed quite a bit since Solomon’s temple, the purpose of worship has never changed. Whether large bronze pillars and gold altars, or beautiful stained glass windows and decorative banners, the purpose of these items is to give honor, glory and praise to God. I think of our own lives and the changes that occur. We grow up, we move to different locations, we change jobs and places of worship from time to time. What doesn’t change and what remains the same is the purpose of our lives: to give glory, honor and praise to Christ. That should remain constant, even in the midst of our ever changing lives.

Your fellow traveler,
Rusty
