I always find it a little amazing to think about the massive amounts of time, discussion, and text which has been spent trying to explain God's will for our lives – both in the Scriptures themselves, but also in all of the commentaries, Bible dictionaries, essays, and other writings over the last several millennia. However, when Jesus is confronted with this same question, he manages to boil it all down to a scant four sentences.
In keeping with the theme for today, I will keep my comments brief and to the point. I think it's comforting to know that it really is just that simple. Regardless of what is going on in my life – tight finances, tough job situations, newborn baby on the way, whatever the circumstances – if I can love God with my entire being and love my neighbors as myself, then God’s will for my life will fall into place. There is no promise that it will be easy to do, but at least it's not complicated. There's no reason to get burnt out trying to figure out what God wants you to do. He wants you to love Him, and also to love others.
And so, with Lincoln Brewster's "Love the Lord" on ringing in my ears, I will sign off for today.
Your fellow traveler,
Tim
