1 Kings 22:29-40 Week 35 : Day 1

by Ed Hanchett

How often do we seek the counsel of others, asking the same question of many, but rejecting the answer until we finally hear what we want to hear? Or how often do we surround ourselves with people who tell us what we want to hear rather than what we need?

Seeking and accepting God’s guidance isn’t always easy. In fact, our own desires and motivations can cloud our minds and dull our ears to God’s message – and His messenger. Yet if we truly desire to walk on the pathway that God has chosen for us, we must open our minds to hearing the wise and godly counsel offered by those who truly love us and seek our gain. Plus, if we reject God’s message when delivered through the voice of His messenger, we only open ourselves for God’s course correction through more direct means! King Ahab not only thought he could reject God’s counsel, but he believed he could hide from God through a disguise. God is the God of mercy and grace –but He is not the God of avoidance.

Your fellow traveler,
Ed
