I love it when the underdog wins! When the team that is sure to face defeat pulls up from the bottom and claims the victory. When those that are least likely to win actually do – yea!
They said it could not be done. The task was too big and the resources too limited. Rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem was no small task. Not only did it require phenomenal manual labor and supplies, but there were enemies all around doing everything in their power to stop this from happening. But God did it! Nehemiah and his crew rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem in record time - 52 days!!
Do you ever feel God has called you to a task that is much bigger than what you are capable of? Nehemiah is such a great example of being steadfast to what God has called us to do, even if it seems impossible. Nehemiah was faithful and consistent. When God’s work is progressing the enemy gets desperate. Nehemiah must have wanted to quit at some point. He prayed to God, “strengthen my hands” as he continued his work; notice Nehemiah did not ask God to “remove him from the situation.” I can’t imagine the emotional, physical, and spiritual strength it must have taken to remain on that task. He did not get lured away to defend himself or God’s purpose as intimidation, and false accusations were thrown against him.
What task are you called to today? Does it seem impossible? Are you tired and you just want to quit? The enemy knows where we are most vulnerable. Maybe you are not physically building a wall, but God has called you to something. Be strong friend, and ask God to “Strengthen your hands” as you continue His work. They said it could not be done…
