The most remembered words of Jesus are actually ones the Gospel’s don’t record. Fortunately, in his farewell speech to the leaders of the Ephesian church, the apostle Paul shares them with the world; It is more blessed to give than to receive (
Acts 20.35).
Perhaps they were not recorded by the gospel writers because of how obviously this was displayed by the way Jesus lived. What we learn from Jesus is not simply a right way to live but the most satisfying way. The giving of ourselves in the service of others (a way in which we serve God (Matthew 25.31-40) is at the same time the service of God’s purpose for ourselves. Until we discover this and engage in it the best this life has to offer us will feel empty (1 Peter 1.18 / John 4.13-18).
SERVE is a key part of our discipleship process (Begin, Belong, Serve) because it is part of one taught in the New Testament. In fact it is the goal of the process because it is in our giving and serving that our lives praise God and give him back the glory he desires (1 Peter 4.10-11).
This Sunday in our CORE series we are going to be focusing on this truth. One each of us needs to embrace if we desire to be a disciple of Jesus and know his purpose for our lives. With this in mind we are holding an opportunity, SERVELINK, where you can look at opportunities around our church to get involved.
I encourage you to ask God what he wants you to begin doing and then--for those not already serving--take the challenge and get in the game.

Re: Rob: Service and True Satisfaction
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
Lord, speak to our hearts about where you want each of us to serve. In Jesus' name, I pray all things. Amen.
