Every day brings another reason why we should be cautious if not discouraged about the output of our lives. The older you get the more 'reality' sinks in, the more the dream dies.

However, for the person with the eye of faith, the Bible paints a very different picture. God does not see our life in isolation, judged simply by what we might achieve or accomplish, but as an instrument in a grand purpose He is working around us. For we are co-workers in God’s service, you are God’s field, God’s building (1 Corinthians 3.9). Only God is fit to judge our lives and only God is able to reward them. Further he is a loving parent doing all he can to see great things result from our small efforts.

What’s of utmost importance is that we plant. Only God can bring about real growth in another. Only God can change the world. But he does that—has chosen to do that—through our everyday efforts of planting. As we are faithful to listen and act God is more than faithful to do the impossible through us.

How does this work?

Begin each day with God. Orient yourself in relation to his presence and power. This is called worship. It puts you in touch with the greater Reality, the true reality that ought to inform your everyday life. This is why the Bible, God’s word is so important, why prayer is so important. They are forms of dependence and sources of life.

Next, look in each day for opportunities to plant the seed…that is, God’s love and power. A prayer for the person in front of you. A good word to someone you know needs encouragement. A timely Scripture for someone in your life. A time-out to serve someone in need where you live or work. The main thing is to be intentional and realize that behind your action, along with your prayer, is the power of the living God. You have no idea what God can do through you and you may never know the consequence of your actions in this life.

You are a tree, God’s tree that will yield fruit that will prosper (Psalm 1.3).

Re: Rob: A Fruitful Life

This is great encouragement and a reminder for all of us that "the main things are the main things; worship, the Word, prayer, aim to act it out!
