This important passage from Isaiah’s prophecy addresses a community in deep conflict, a conflict between their lifestyle and their intention expressed in worship. Worship had become a calculation—a means to an end—to get something from God, instead of an end in itself. This kind of worship, void of ethical conduct, is empty and brings no access to God. The kind of worship God desires results in the doing of God’s will in the world (Romans 12.1-2).

This past Sunday I challenged every person to engage in an exercise of spiritual preparation. I hope that you will take this challenge and pray through the promises of this passage—not just once, but every day for a week. Allow the truth of God’s Word to take hold in your life and transform you.
