Biography
My name is Jackie Daniel Cona. My husband and I are new parents to a baby boy. I work as a music teacher and love to run. Besides a new baby we also live with a pug and a greyhound. We were married last December by Pastor Blake.
Reflection
The consequences of sin are not a popular and fun topic to discuss in the Christian message. I would rather hear about the love of God and some other positive feel good message on any Sunday.
I was particularly struck by the statement Samson made about being set apart to God since birth. Samson knew he was special in the eyes of God. I think all of us who have made a decision to have a relationship with God have been “set apart since birth.” God has called me, I am set apart to be his child, unique from anyone else. What a comforting reflection.
The sin in Samson’s life cost him great pain and the loss of his eyes. He lost his strength and the “Lord left him.” We know that God never leaves us. I think this statement means that Samson’s behavior progressively pulled him away from his will, so far that the consequences became great.
The challenge of this chapter is to consider the sin in our own lives. Is it lust, selfishness, laziness, greed, or disrespecting our spouse?
God, help me to recognize my sin and turn away so I may avoid the consequences of my behavior. May I learn to become more like you day by day.
Your fellow traveler,
Jackie
