Judges 17 Week 4 : Day 5

written by Jackie Cona

Biography

My name is Jackie Daniel Cona. This is my first time ever opening the book of Judges! I work as a music teacher and love Indian food. My husband and I ran our first marathon a year ago.

Reflection

It isn’t too difficult, after getting to know some people, to learn what their most important values are. Some people really get absorbed in their work, family, life, exercising, or traveling. Behind the curtain of our daily activities there is a “true north” path we are following. After reflecting on this chapter, I am challenged to consider those “true north” values that might be competing or taking over the Christ-centered life in my own life.

This chapter in Judges left me confused at first. Why is Micah stealing from his Mom? Then the mother gives most of it back to him and then he makes an idol shrine? Mmmm? Then I read, “in those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.” (Judges 21.25) I can relate to this. I can say that without my King I start to feel lost. Decisions and struggles get muddled without peace or direction. The false-religions of today aren’t really bowing to statues in our houses, but other philosophies and all-consuming activities that distract us from thinking about our lives and our creator.

God, help me to see that you are “true north.” Challenge me to put all other things in proper perspective.

Your fellow traveler,

Jackie
