1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5 Week 8 : Day 4

by Tim Chase

Today God takes a timeout in these two passages to explain the moral or meaning of the story that we will finish tomorrow. These verses explain why God is choosing Saul and how he is putting the right man in the right place of power. Saul is the weak—maybe even meek—individual that God wants to use as a leader that will bring people to Him. This will be an example to the people, something for them to believe in.

You don’t have to be the wisest to be the most influential leader; you just have to be the leader that leads by God’s word. By God’s word you bring people to the light, compared to self-righteous, powerful, demanding, arrogant leaders who demand you follow their rule with a mighty fist, much like the extreme examples of infamous dictators.

The spirit’s power is mightier than the sword.

Through Saul, a leader taller than most – perhaps so he will physically get the people’s attention so they will listen – God will send this message to the people.

As I discussed yesterday, have you ever gone through a major change, gotten to the other side after some fear and struggle, and said to yourself, “Wow, what was I so afraid of? I could never go back. I feel silly thinking I used to be so meek.” Well, God’s word helps us to get through these changes, especially those that others are asking of you. We stay faithful and positive, even if the changes are things you never wanted or thought of.

I believe we must always keep moving forward and believing that God is putting faithful people where he wants them, or using other people, even those who may not seem so faithful. God will get you through and bring you to places and perspectives that you didn’t think were possible for yourself.

Stepping stones that are really stairs…

Your fellow traveler,

Tim
