The Altar of Incense
by Theo Wheeler

In our world today, I think of incense as being something drug related, or just "weird.” But in this passage, God has asked for incense as a burnt offering, and has given very specific instruction on how to construct the altar that will be used. The key is found in in verse 5, "I will meet with you.” Once we do what God is instructing, He says He will meet with us.

I think of these sacrifices as a way of worship, a way to interact with our Father. I think many of the specific details, and rules, were a means for God to remove distractions. They were a way to have us come to Him, so that He could meet with us. What was true then is still true today. God wants to remove our distractions and He wants us to come to Him so that He can meet with us.

A Fellow Traveler,
Theo

Monthly Spiritual Practice
Slowing
Hurry is a way of life. Slowing limits our speed, helping us recognize that the only place we can ever truly live with God is the present. This month, look for ways to slow down. Drive in the slow lane. Choose the longest checkout line. Move more slowly, or take longer with people and time to do normal tasks.
