Who’s Steering Your Ship?

Happy Thursday, Browncroft! Please enjoy this devotional anecdote from one of our lovely Administrative Assistants in the Main Office, Donna! We hope her encouraging words will brighten your week.

I had the privilege not too long ago of taking a cruise. Sailing the Atlantic Ocean in all its vastness. On an adventure like this, you realize that you are at the mercy of the winds and waves, as well as the competent captain and his mates at the helm.

I was amazed how easy it was to just trust the captain and his crew guiding us through the waters to our destination. To trust that they would get us to our port and back home without incident. We hit some rough seas a couple of times where we could feel the boat rock. At night we would hear the waves crash on the side of the boat as we forged ahead to our destination. We took note as the captain and crew slowed our pace when appropriate and then took the speed up a few notches when the seas were much calmer. We landed in a fog bank for at least four hours, and even then we trusted that the captain had it all under control.

I am so thankful that the Captain of our ship (God) and His Crew (Jesus and the Holy Spirit) are exceptionally trustworthy to bring us through every season of life– the calm waters, the stormy seas, and those times when we cannot see what lies ahead.

When the seas of life become rough, you have a Captain and Crew to assure your safety, and you do not have to fear that the storm will overtake you.

We trust our God to guide us through every aspect of our lives. To bring us to each “port of call” in His timing, and safely. When the seas of life become rough, you have a Captain and Crew to assure your safety, and you do not have to fear that the storm will overtake you. When you can’t see anything ahead, behind, or on either side, you have a Captain and Crew who can set your heart in a place of peace and waiting, until the fog lifts, and you can once again move forward.

As I thought about how willing I was to trust the human captain of this vessel we traveled on, I was challenged in my own heart to remember that I have a loving God who captains my life every day. A God who loves me extravagantly, loves me unconditionally, and wants to bring me safely to shore. God longs for me to trust Him with my whole heart. I am daily learning to live out the very first scripture I ever memorized many years ago, 1 Peter 5:7 AMP: “Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”

So as you voyage daily with your Savior, know that your path is carefully watched over and you have nothing to fear. Go hand in hand with your Savior and He will get you safely to each port.
