Browncroft Kids Exploring Peace

Browncroft Kids Exploring Peace

April 22, 2021

As Browncroft’s “big church” explores biblical reconciliation, Browncroft Kids are also focusing in on peace. Specifically, we’re studying how peace is proving you care more about each other than winning an argument.

The ultimate example here is Jesus. As last Sunday’s message on “Reconciled to God” powerfully reminded us, early in history humans rebelled against God’s rule and this created a divide between God and the people He created.

BUT GOD! But God made peace available to us by sending his Son, Jesus. He took the punishment for our sins. He paid the price with His own life. And then He rose from the dead. Because of Jesus we are able to experience peace!

Browncroft Kids started studying peace by celebrating Easter. Then we turned to Paul’s writing in the Book of Colossians to learn about letting the peace of Christ rule in our hearts and living in peace with each other. Living that way is not always easy, but it is worth the effort!

Let the peace that Christ gives rule in your hearts. As parts of one body, you were appointed to live in peace. And be thankful.

Colossians 3:15 (NiRV)

Most recently, we looked in Genesis at Isaac’s work to reclaim the wells of his father Abraham. Once Isaac had reopened the wells everyone began fighting over them. Isaac could have fought for what was his, but instead he gave them away to make peace. Similarly, we desire for our children to know that they have a choice to choose peace over conflict.

This coming week we will finish our month of peace by studying Abigail in 1 Samuel 25:1-35. King David was furious with a man who mistreated his soldiers and he was ready to get revenge. But the offender’s wife, Abigail, brought him gifts to make peace and apologized. She was not responsible for her husband’s behavior, but she wanted to stop a situation that could have spiraled from bad to worse. Abigail chose to be a peacemaker. She chose to build a bridge.

If you aren’t plugged into the opportunities for families that we have at Browncroft, we would love to have you as part of our community. Please check out our Browncroft Kids YouTube channel and our weekly resources for families available at browncroft.org/kids.

Remember that we are here for you and want to encourage you as you raise up the next generation!
