You walk into service on Sunday. The worship moved you, you signed up for the next event, and Pastor Rob’s message was inspiring yet challenging. The questions at the end of his sermon made you ponder for a moment, reflecting on the personal application to your life. But before you know it, service is over, and you’re chatting with your church family in the lobby and then heading home. Fast forward to Monday, whether you’re at the office or catching up on work at home. Maybe parts of yesterday’s message apply to what is happening today, or maybe not.
Does this ever happen to you? I often forget to apply Sunday’s sermon to my life Monday through Saturday. Thankfully, I have my small group on Tuesday evenings, where we use the church’s weekly group guide to talk through the sermon and how it applies to us. (Find the group guide on our app or website at browncroft.org/sermons!) But even with a great group, the provided questions can feel awkward or hard to answer, especially if you just joined.
With the start of the Seven Churches series this fall, we are reintroducing Between Two Sermons, a video resource for your small group. Each week, Communications Director Rich Christman will interview Pastor Rob and a guest from Browncroft’s staff to focus on the application questions from the sermon. These videos are designed to work alongside your group guide, not replace it, giving your group a starting point for conversation.
The purpose of this resource is to better align Sunday morning with your small group sessions throughout the week. Remember that gap between Sunday and Monday? This video series is meant to close it. The questions Pastor Rob leaves us with on Sunday are the same ones your group will wrestle with midweek, so that the sermon doesn’t end when you walk out of the building. Instead, you’ll head into your week knowing what conversation is coming, and with something concrete to think about in the office, at home, or wherever your week takes you.

Between Two Sermons also provides a staff model for how to answer the group guide’s application questions. In other words, it serves as a jumping-off point for you and your group. Let’s be honest – some of these questions are hard, and it can feel uncomfortable to be the first to answer. When you see staff members answer openly and vulnerably, it gives everyone permission to do the same. These aren’t meant to be the “right” answers, just examples of honest ones. After each video, your group can ask, “Do you agree? What would your answer be?”
Our prayer for you and your group is that you will think critically about these questions and reflect on how God is working through you in your daily discipleship. We hope for deeper honesty, more life application, and rich conversations that continue long after your group time ends. Our hope is that each sermon would follow you into your Monday morning and every day after.
