Working in Family Ministry, summer always brings a mix of emotions—so much gratitude, and honestly, a little sadness at the end of a ministry year, too.
Every year, we have over 100 incredible volunteers who serve faithfully all school year long. Whether in Kids or Students, they show up every week and build life-changing relationships—serving not only for the children and students, but for themselves as well.
How do I know these relationships are life-changing? Because on Wednesday nights, I serve as a Student Leader. And I truly can’t imagine not knowing each of my girls. They’ve changed my life and point me to Jesus every single week. As much as I’m there to serve them, they truly are a blessing to me, and I see firsthand how many other Small Group Leaders feel the same about their students. But enough about me—back to our amazing volunteers.
I’m constantly in awe of how many Browncrofters faithfully serve. One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to know our Kids volunteers—their stories, their hearts, and the reasons why intergenerational ministry matters to them. When I look at each of them, I see Jesus’ heart for others, and I’m reminded of the kind of person I want to be—someone who points others toward His love.
On behalf of the entire Family Ministry team to our volunteers: thank you. Thank you for the way you serve each family, kid, and student—and for the impact you’ve had on my life, too.
To honor our volunteers’ commitment, we offer them a much-deserved break each summer. And to make that possible, we invite you—our wider church family—to step in and be a part of what we call Summer Serve. By signing up for just one Sunday in July or August, you help ensure that Browncroft Kids continues to be a place where children are welcomed, known, and introduced to the love of Jesus.
It’s about becoming the kind of church God calls us to be—an intergenerational family of faith.
But here’s the thing: Summer Serve isn’t just about giving our team a breather.
It’s about becoming the kind of church God calls us to be—an intergenerational family of faith.
Psalm 78:4 says, “We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done.”
This call isn’t just for parents—it’s for all of us. Whether you’re in middle school and just beginning to discover how God can use you, or you’re 98 and looking for a simple way to show love—Summer Serve is a powerful way to join in what God is doing in the next generation.
What’s beautiful about it is it doesn’t just bless the kids. It blesses the adults who step into their world—even for a morning. And the best part? It’s simple. Don’t take my word for it– check out the Faith In Action video from this past Sunday to hear directly from some volunteers who loved Summer Serve so much they went on to serve year-round!
Serve for one or two Sundays at the service time of your choice. Show up, smile, and share a little love and encouragement to point the next generation to Jesus. We’ll guide you every step of the way.
