One of the best steps white Christians can take in racial reconciliation is to engage resources from black leaders. Below is a list of leaders and recourses that you can begin to check out to better understand and empathize with our black brothers and sisters:
- Dr. Torrence Sparkman – Torrence Sparkman leads at Browncroft, the church I serve. There are two resources that he has shared on his perspective on racism:
- Jude 3 Project – Lisa Fields has weekly podcast discussing theology, apologetics, and cultural issues along with additional articles and recommended resources.
- Natasha Sistrunk Robinson – I had the joy of meeting Natasha at the Call and Response Conference. She is a significant voice on mentoring and discipleship, along with leadership development.
- Dr. Esau McCaulley – Dr. McCaulley teaches theology and biblical studies at Wheaton College. He has numerous articles on Christianity Today and hosts a podcast called The Disrupters. You can pre-order his book, Reading While Black: African American Biblical Interpretation as an Exercise of Hope.
- Dante Stewart – Dante has numerous articles on Christianity Today, The Witness, and other publications online along with a devotional he wrote for Advent. We had the opportunity to interview him on the Why God Why Podcast. Click here to access that episode.
- Dr. Bryan Loritts – Bryan has been very active on social media. I would highly encourage you to follow him. He wrote the book Insider Outsider, which details his experience and perspective on race in the church.
- Dear White Christian: What Every White Christian Needs to Know About How Black Christians See, Think, & Experience Racism in America – Aaron Layton wrote Dear White Christians follow the racial and cultural events in Ferguson, MO. He was interview this year on the Rusty George Podcast. Click here to listen to that episode.
- Theological Works by Black Theologians, Pastors and Scholars – The Witness website provides not only this list but many articles of recommended resources on race and culture for Christians.
