In seventh grade, my Bible teacher had us memorize Romans 6:1-4, which says this:
“What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
You can find a home in certain passages of scripture. As a seventh grader, I enjoyed the back and forth of Paul’s questions to the Romans. Paul leaves his readers with a remarkable impression – why go back to your old life when Jesus’ resurrection has changed everything?
I now come back to Romans 6:1-4 and think about baptisms at Browncroft. The stories of people who have taken this monumental step of proclaiming Jesus’ death and resurrection in their own lives run through my mind. These verses are not just a theoretical doctrine to be discussed but a beautiful reality of Jesus at work in this church family.
It never gets old to hear people share with us how Jesus has changed their life.
On Sunday we will celebrate baptisms at Browncroft. This ordinance reflects the gospel, our mission, and our vision. It never gets old to hear people share with us how Jesus has changed their life. In my most cynical moments, I often remind myself of baptism because it refocuses my attention to the work Jesus is doing in us as a church.
I want to invite you to come this Sunday and celebrate the work God is doing. We will be watching individuals express the move from their old life to their new life in Christ.
Perhaps you are interested in getting baptized in the future. We want to celebrate God’s work in you. Below are the dates we will offer baptisms in the next year as well as a link to start the process:
- December 14, 2025
- March 15, 2026
- May 17, 2026
