Grief Is Real

February 4, 2021

Grief is real. We rightly rejoice in how God has blessed us — even in such a difficult time as the last 12 months. But it is also right to be honest with ourselves about what we have lost.

For some it is participating in one of life’s landmark events — a graduation celebration, a wedding of a loved one, or perhaps a chance to travel abroad. For others, the blow could come from a job loss. And for many in this season it is the death of someone very dear to their hearts.

Psalms 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

The feelings that come with being broken and crushed are raw and real. The pain can feel overwhelming.

But we can know God sees us in it. God loves us in it. And He wants to heal us.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Psalms 34:18

Here at Browncroft we want to walk with each other as a family through life’s high points AND times of deepest hurt. If you are grieving, we want to find ways to come alongside you.

I encourage you to check out the most recent episodes of Browncroft’s “Why God Why” podcast. Peter Englert, our Adult Ministries Director, has specifically zeroed in on questions that arise in seasons of grief. In each episode, Peter and his guests recount personal stories of deep hurt and wrestle with very tough questions.

In one recent conversation longtime Browncofters Jill and Lee Teitsworth talked with Peter about the question, “Why can’t time heal all wounds?” In the course of that discussion, Jill says, “Your hurt is your hurt. Your pain is your pain. You need to grieve your pain.”

A takeaway from these conversations is that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. We at Browncroft don’t want you to feel alone and we have ministries to help.

One opportunity intended for those struggling with the loss of a loved one is GriefShare. This 13-week series of video seminars followed by virtual group discussions is happening now through March 28 on Sunday afternoons. New faces are welcome, but you need to register ahead of time.

Another upcoming opportunity specifically created for those who have suffered the passing of a husband or wife is an in-person “Loss of a Spouse” seminar at Browncroft on Tuesday, February 23, beginning at 7:00pm. You can register and find out more details here. A short introductory video is also available below:

For any questions about these events or other ways Browncroft can walk with you through grief, please don’t hesitate to send us a message using the button below.

As we walk together, we can take heart. We are promised, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4, CSB).

Amen.
