Good Neighbor Day

Your Invitation To Good Neighbor Day

May 4, 2023

I want to personally invite you to our Good Neighbor Day celebration on Saturday!

Good Neighbor Day is an annual event dedicated to the memory of a man named Terry Rothfuss — a name you might recognize as you drive around town. Terry was a local farmer who thought Penfield was the greatest place on earth to live, and two things I love about his story is that he helped everyone in need and he got to know people. He embodied what it means to be a good neighbor.

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Galatians 5:14

To carry on his legacy Terry’s daughters partner each year with the Town of Penfield to organize volunteers to clean up the yards of elderly individuals and veterans in need in our community. And for the last several years Browncroft has partnered with our Town and Rothfuss colleagues not only to promote this clean-up effort, but also to celebrate those “good neighbors” with food, fun, and games after the clean-up efforts.

This year our Good Neighbor Day celebration will be on Saturday, May 6, in Rothfuss Park from 10:00am – 1:00pm. We’ll have food trucks, crafts, games, and prizes! And everyone is welcome (you don’t need to be a Penfield resident), so please bring any family member or friend.  We’ll also be collecting condiments for the Penfield Food Shelf — ketchup, mayo, and/or mustard in particular would be a huge help to them!

Good Neighbor Day really is a wonderful opportunity to shine the light of Jesus as we work and play side-by-side with our Penfield neighbors. So please come on out to this celebration and meet some new friends!

This past week, 34 Browncroft students and leaders traveled to Houghton University for five days of Never the Same Camp (NTS). They gathered alongside 600 students and leaders from other churches in the Rochester/Buffalo area to grow in community with each other and with God. I was blessed with the opportunity to participate in this experience with them, and let me tell you, the things I witnessed during this week were eye-opening.
